WorkPrada X Prada
Prada X Prada
Stepping into the bottle: a virtual reality experience in which each note of the fragrance becomes a world to cross, and simply looking is enough to move the story on.
The context
Prada wanted to showcase two fragrances — L’Homme Prada and La Femme Prada — in a way images could not. The idea: simulate a journey inside the fragrance itself, in virtual reality. It was the first of the two Prada projects of that period, before the Luna Rossa kiosk.
My role
I handled the technical direction of the project: architecture of the real-time experience, steering the 3D production, and designing the interactions.
What it changed
The experience made visible what cannot be seen: the composition of a fragrance. Moving from world to world, the viewer discovered each note before reaching the final reveal of the fragrance.
What was delivered
A complete virtual reality experience on Oculus: a series of 3D worlds illustrating each note, free movement between them, and gaze-triggered interactions — looking at certain elements was enough to launch the animations. The journey led from inside the bottle to the reveal of the fragrance.
What remains
In virtual reality, attention is the best interface. Triggering with the gaze rather than a controller lets someone who has never worn a headset live the experience without instructions. This project also raised the question taken up right after with Luna Rossa: what do you keep of the experience once the headset comes off?
